Three Pathways

Pick the
road that
fits you.

Some chase 50 marathons. Some chase 50 halfs. Some chase a finish at any distance. We celebrate all three.

The Marathoners

For runners chasing a full 26.2-mile finish in every state. The long road. The bucket-list pathway.

The Four Rules

That's the whole rulebook.

01

Official timed races only

A race counts if it's an officially timed event — chip, bib, or stopwatch run by a race organizer. The finish line has to be a real one.

02

Your name on the results

You should be in the official published results. If a race director has a record of your finish, it counts. We don't ask to see it — we just ask that it exists.

03

Pick a pathway, or all three

Track your 50 marathons, 50 halfs, or 50 mixed-distance races. Or chase more than one pathway at once — many of us do.

04

Log it yourself

When you finish, submit your race through the website form — name, date, distance, city, and state. The dashboard can then be updated.

The honor system, in 60 words.

We don't ask for proof. No screenshots. No certificates. No verification calls. We trust every member to log their own races honestly, because that's the whole point — this is your journey, your record, your story. If a race meets the standard, write it down. We'll cheer.

What Counts

A quick sanity check.

Counts

  • 5K, 10K, 15K, half marathon, marathon, ultra
  • Trail races, road races, track meets — any surface
  • Virtual races officially organized by a race company with results
  • Relay legs where you have a recorded finish
  • Small local races with as few as 20 finishers

Doesn't Count

  • Solo training runs and untimed group runs
  • Treadmill miles, even if they're 26.2 of them
  • Races where you DNF'd before the finish line
  • Pacing duties where you didn't cross the line yourself
  • "That time I ran a marathon around my neighborhood"

We wanted a club where getting started feels simple, encouraging, and focused on the joy of chasing 50 finish lines across the country.
— Founder's Note

A simple way to track a 50 state journey.

The 50 state running community is one of the most welcoming groups in the sport. Many clubs and organizations have done great work supporting runners, recognizing milestones, and preserving the history of the challenge.

Fifty States Striders offers a lighter, more informal way to participate. We focus on helping runners record their progress, see their journey visually, and stay motivated along the way. We trust members to log races honestly, because the story belongs to the runner who earned each finish line.

Why honor system?

Because the satisfaction of crossing 50 finish lines belongs to you. The honor system keeps the process simple and lets runners focus on the experience, the travel, the people, and the memories made in each state.

Why three pathways?

Because 50 marathons isn't the only adventure worth having. 50 halfs is a lifetime project on its own. So is a 50-state mix of any official races. We didn't want a runner to feel locked out just because they chose a different distance than the runner next to them.

Our Values

Four things that guide us.

VALUE 01

Simple to join.

We keep the starting point easy and welcoming so runners can spend less time figuring out the process and more time planning the next state.

VALUE 02

Honor over policing.

We trust members to record their races honestly. The journey is yours to log, yours to own, and yours to be proud of.

VALUE 03

Every runner welcome.

Walk-a-bit, jog-a-bit, sub-3 marathoner, weekend-warrior, retiree, teenager. Pace is not the cover charge.

VALUE 04

Data should be a joy.

Spreadsheets, dashboards, color-coded maps — we celebrate the numbers behind the running, not just the medals.

Sound like your kind of club?

A quick honor system reminder.

No screenshots required. No bib photos. No race issued certificates. We trust you to submit a race that was officially timed and that lists you in the results. That is the only standard, and you are the one keeping your record.

Race Submission Form

Submit one or multiple new races.

Enter your newly completed races below. Use the Add Another Race button to submit races in multiple states at one time. Your public dashboard counts one qualifying race per state.

Bulk Race History Upload

Have too many completed states to enter manually?

If you have a large existing race history, I can upload it for you. You must first join Fifty States Striders and receive your Member Number. After your race history is uploaded, you can return to this page whenever you complete additional states.

Email your race list to FiftyStateStriders@gmail.com and include:

  • Your Member Number
  • Your email address

Race Correction Request

Need to correct or remove a race you already submitted?

Please do not submit a replacement race through the form below unless instructed. If the wrong date, race name, distance, city, or state was entered, send a correction request so your dashboard and race history can be updated accurately.

Please include the following information in your request:

  • Your Member Number and the email address associated with your membership
  • The race currently showing incorrectly, including the race name and state
  • The corrected race name, date, distance, city, and state
  • Whether the race should be corrected or removed entirely
Correction requests are reviewed before changes are made to a member dashboard.

1. Find Your Member Profile

Use the Member Number provided after your membership was approved and the same email address used when you joined.

2. Add Your Newly Completed Race

Submit one or more official timed races. Your dashboard will update after your submission is processed.

One qualifying race per state: You may submit several newly completed races at once. If you submit a new race in a state already shown on your dashboard, the newly submitted race will become the race displayed for that state.
